I am connecting to the team foundation server without issue, but there are no projects showing up in the projects list even though there are projects on that server.
Where would be the first place to look?

Hello Nick,
Is it possible that the user you are connecting with does not have permissions to view those projects within TFS? Are you able to view these projects using Team Explorer and the same credentials?

My "View TFS sync information" button on the Project tab is disabled. The server is setup in 'Manage Servers' account names and passwords are correct. I do not understand why this button is disabled?
I am domain admin, I am collection admin, and I am project admin for all my projects in TFS. I can load team explorer (on the server) and see all my projects.
I just realized you must create a TP project and map it to the TFS project. It was not clear to me in the getting started guide. I was under the impression that creating a new project would create a TFS project.
