I have a link that opens a new tab in IE9, but the recorder (vs2010) does not seem to detect the new tab and connect to it.

I want to validate that the correct page opened then close the tab

any ideas?

Hello,

Test Studio does not support what is known as "tabbed browsing". You must configure IE to "Always open pop-ups in a new window" as documented on this page.

Hi,

We do not currently have plans to support tabbed browsing. Opening pop-ups in a new window seems to be functionally the same such that we don't see any need to spend the effort and resources to support tabbed browsing.

Do you have a real automation need where tabbed browsing is required?

Kind regards,

no but I don't like the idea of being foreced to change the way I use my browser just so I can use a UI testing tool

Hi Andrew,

I understand and appreciate your concern. We investigated if we could support tabbed browsing. We found that the level of effort required was excessive. The way that IE handles tabs is complex making it very difficult for us to detect and work with pop-up browser windows (i.e. tabs). We concluded it wasn't worth the effort that would be required to work with IE's tabbed browsing mode.

Greetings,
