Does the WinForms version of the ComboBox support multi-columns?

I notice that the ASP version does, but there is no mention of this in the WinForms version.

Best Regards
Eddie

Hi Eddie,

Unfortunately, RadComboBox currently doesn't support multicolumn behavior. We definitely intend to implement it as it is a nice feature and a common request. Keep an eye on the Roadmap for more information on its availability.

Hi Georgi,

Roadmap does not tell anything specific (or may be I am looking at wrong place?) about when are you planning to implement. We can't just wait and watch. We are looking for some timeframe so we can look for alternate, we have to deliver a product.

To me to show lookup with code and description (like state code, state name) is really basic thing for software appication. This should be done ASAP, or atleast give us timeframe.

Thanks

Thank you for your question, Bhasker.

As you have noticed, our WinForms combobox does not support multi-column support yet. This is due to the fact that our WinForms suite is rather young, especially when compared to our ASP.NET suite - the first official WinForms release was about year and a half ago (October 2006).

Multi-column support is on our top-priority list as this is the only major feature that is left for the product. We hope to be able to provide it as soon as Q1 2008 in April. This feature depends on several important improvements we are planning for RadComboBox which should be implemented beforehand. For example, we plan on moving RadListBox to the new layouts which we have been working on, which will improve performance and will allow adding multi-column support easily. We plan to finalize the first phase of combo's improvements by the end of January. Only afterwards we will be able to say when exactly multi-column support will appear. As I said, our hopes are high that we will be able to provide it as soon as April. I am afraid that I cannot promise it for earlier than April.

As soon as we have more information on the April release we will update the WinForms Roadmap. I will try to follow up here with more information on our combobox plans in early February.

Hello Everybody,

Same comment from me: multicolumn is a very basic feature and I was surprised that you do not support it!

ASAP needed!

I don't see RadComboBox mentioned in your Q1 2008 release breakdown. Does it mean you wasn't able to get it in the release?

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for writing.

Currently, RadComboBox does not include multi-column support. Nevertheless, we have done much to optimize and improve our product, and I invite you to review what is new here. We have added multi-column support to our todo list, and will escalate its priority in case more customers show interest in using this feature. Still, I can give you no timeframe when this feature will be available.

Do not hesitate to contact me again if you have other questions.

All the best,

THanks for the vote, Mike.

We will do our best to include multi-column support to RadComboBox. We will need to take care of some performance and painting issues beforehand, and only then we will turn to adding new features. We will have a clearer plan of Q2 2008 next week and I will update this thread as soon as I have more news on the topic.

Sincerely yours,
Vassil

I must add my voice of disappointment in the lack of this feature.  I've been using your controls for ASP.NET for a long time and only recently came a cross a need of using the WinForm controls.  The lack of such a basic feature as multicolumn support is a very major problem and I think that since you didn't include it in Q1 2008 you absolutely MUST include it in Q2 2008.  All your major competitors already support much more advanced features in their winforms.  Your controls have been around for long enough to at least match most of them.

Again, very disappointed that such an important feature has been left out for so long.  And unless there can be a specific timeframe for when this feature will be developed (Q2 2008 at the very latest for me) I will certainly switch to other providers who already have this feature.

Thanks,

Marek

I am on the same page as Marek - please include this basic feature - I was expecting this in the Q1 release based on the comments, and the features importance.

Thanks.

Hello guys,

I just wanted to let you know that we will have multi-column support in RadComboBox in Q2 2008, due next month. The public WinForms Roadmap will be updated with this information by the end of this week.

I hope the new feature will satisfy your needs.

Would there be any chance of us getting some documentation on the new MultiColumnCombobox????? It appears to have a Massive amount of properties and settings to tinker with and many of them seem to override each other.

I love that new features and controls are added but please please please please stop releasing new things without documentation. Thats just BAD PRACTICE, and not really what a paying customer should be put through. It is bad enough that there are MAJOR bugs in each and every release, but without documentation on even the most basic functionality of a new control, said new control is essentially useless.

Increasingly frustrated,
Mike

Hi,
I also take time to see how multicolumn work. At least now, I can set database, column's header and bestfit. That all. I need to use other button to confirm Text change on MultiColumn. However, It is better than nothing.

Hello Van,

The RadMultiColumnComboBox is a new control and to be honest not quite feature-complete. It was a last minute decision to include it in Q2 2008 and that's why we had to leave it undocumented. Of course that would be only until the first service pack where we should have documentation on how to use this controls.

In the meantime don't hesitate to ask whatever questions you have on how to use the control! These will be treated with priority.
