Hello,

there are many problems with the standalone designer:

  1. When you start it, the window is displayed in the background.
  2. The settings such as width of the right palette and position / size of the Styles window are now kept, so we must always resize them.
  3. If you run the designer on a PC without VisualStudio installed and open the dialog for the value of an HTML text box, a message is displayed saying that mshtml is not installed.
  4. The page watermarks are not displayed, neither in the design view nor in the Preview view.
  5. The Label wizard always displays the size of the labels in inches.
  6. The Designer is only available in English and there is no way to change the resources.

Hi Patrick,

Up to your questions:

1. Yes, it is an issue that is introduced in the R2 2017 release of Telerik Reporting - it is logged in our system and will be fixed in a subsequent release of our product.

2. Some of the dialogs (i.e. Conditional Formatting, Bindings Editor, Style Editor) persist their position and size. Others, like collection editors, currently do not have this ability. We have this issue logged in our feedback portal and based on the votes it gets, we'll schedule it for implementation.

3. mshtml.dll is required by HtmlTextBox designer and usually this file should be distributed with Windows, since it is required by Internet Explorer, but apparently in some newer versions (Windows 10 with Anniversary update) this file is missing. We will improve the designer behavior in this case, possibly providing the ability to write only HTML markup in HTML view instead of using the Design view mode. You can read more on the subject here and here.

4. As noted in our Watermarks article, at runtime the page watermarks are displayed only in Print Preview mode and this is by design. However, we will consider providing a design-time primitive/placeholder, that will indicate that a watermark has been set up.

5. The labels listed in the Label Wizard have different size settings based on their templates. You can check, for example, the APLI and Formtec categories under Mailing Label type, which have their sizes in millimeters and centimeters, respectively.

6. You are right - currently we do not support localization of Standalone Designer. As with all the suggested feature, we would like to ask you to log it in our Feedback and Ideas portal and we will evaluate its importance based on users' votes.

We value users feedback and always encourage our users to share their opinions and make suggestions about our product. As a token of gratitude your Telerik points have been updated.

Hi,

I also have the same issue with number 3 (mshtml.dll) so I try to follow the solution from the links you provided. I added mshtml.dll to visual studio 2019 and it seems to fix the initial error.

The problem is, now when I swap to preview mode then swap back to design mode, new error pop up arises. It says :

Command 'CMD(Report.PreviewView)' already registered Parameter name: command

This causes the program UI messed up and unworkable.

current workaround is to try to swap to another view eg. File then comeback then the view will be refresh to normal again.

But this error comes up every time and workaround doesn't make it any less annoying.

Could you help me on this, please?

Hi Wasenshi,

Can you elaborate on the scenario? Do you launch the Standalone designer from your custom application? On what Windows?

Generally, the Standalone designer is not designed to be integrated into another solution. It is possible to launch it with the Process.Start.

Note that we have released the WebReportDesigner that can be integrated into an application and opened in the browser for designing reports.
