Issues with samples on WP Emulator/Hardware

Has anyone else experienced issues with the sample apps on the native emulator / real devices? 

I tried running the Friends Hybrid app on the simulator and it worked great. Deployed to emulator/device and the input placeholder text is unreadable. Worse, the "Don't have an account?" link doesn't even work. Further, I CAN login via Facebook, but once logging in, I can't click on back or add icons. The app is unusable.

I understand this is just a sample app, but am wondering if anyone knows why this is happening... I'm a bit puzzled as to why it would work in the simulator but totally different on the real devices.

I'm looking to develop a couple of apps for all 3 platforms. If WP is not really supported well, I'm wondering if I should be looking at Xamarin and ask Telerik for a refund...
