MS just released SQL Server Express 2012, which supports a new format: LocalDB.

It's like CE but has most of the functionality of full SQL Server (stored procs, etc) and only requires a connection string to the file. No need to install SQLExpress, separately.

Does OpenAccess support LocalDB?

Hello Keith,

For the time being LocalDB is not certified as a supported database by OpenAccess ORM. However, we are working on implementing sufficient tests to ensure there aren't any hidden problems there.

As we are generally able to connect to a LocalDB storage and retrieve the schema, you can give it a try even now and let us know if you have any problems. We are most probably going to issue the official support with the Q2 2012 release of OpenAccess.

I will keep you posted on this thread for any progress or news regarding the Local DB support in OpenAccess ORM.

All the best,

Hi Keith,

I am glad to announce that the support for SQL Server 2012 and LocalDB is now fully tested, so you can count on OpenAccess ORM stability when connected to both. For some more information regarding the usage of LocalDB, you can refer to this blog post.

Do not hesitate to get back to us if you have further questions.
