iOS 9 support

Hi,

What are the expectations around support for building apps that run on iOS9 with the Appbuilder tooling?  The beta is currently out.

Is there a specific version of Phonegap needed to support iOS9?

Is it known if current Telerik Marketplace plugins support/have been tested against this version?

 

Basically I'm asking, what am I in for when iOS9 is generally available?

Hi Mark,

As with every new major version of iOS we are fully committed to support it. There are a couple of things that should happen before AppBuilder releases an official support for iOS 9:

1. Apple should release the official release (aka golden master)
2. Cordova should provide support for it.
3. AppBuilder should be updated (all AppBuilder clients and AppBuilder cloud infrastructure) to use this new version of Cordova that works with iOS 9.

Judging by past experience it took Cordova 1-2 months (from 17 Sep 2014 to 06 Nov 2014) to release support for iOS 8. AppBuilder releases on a regular cadence of 6-8 weeks which yields that in late 2015 full iOS 9 support is expected.

Note: Apps built with AppBuilder will work in iOS 9 without any modifications because Apple guarantees backwards compatibility. However if you want to take advantage of some iOS 9 specific feature you will need the AppBuilder support to be in place.

Hi Stefan, given recent news (see below) on issues with iOS 9 UIWebView, what's the situation with Kendo UI compatibility. Does Telerik tests existing Kendo UI releases for regressions using available iOS9 beta?

Hi Sergei,

We have tested the Kendo UI widgets on iOS 9 beta and we weren't able to detect any issues. We are also currently testing the AppBuilder samples and templates on iOS 9 beta and if we find any issues we will make sure to address them before officially announcing our support for iOS 9.
