Hi,
I have started to play with the Silverlight 4 RadControls CTP (2009.3 1314 (Jan 14,2010). I notice that when trying to add a namespace the Telerik ones do not show. I can type in the appropriate namespace declaration and use the controls but then intellisense is not available. I have copied the Silverlight RadControls DLLs to Visual Studio's publicAssemblies folder.

Thanks
Russell

PS: I do have the SL3 RadControls installed as well.

Hello Rus,

I have a suspicion that you have copied RadControls DLLs to publicAssemblies folder but you have not copied the .xml and .pdb which goes with the DLLs. You need to copy them as well as the .xml files are needed for the intellisense to work. So make sure you have copied the .xml files : Telerik.Windows.Controls.xml  etc.

Try this and see how it goes. If this doesn't fix the problem please let me know.

Hi Boyan,

Thanks for the response. I can confirm that I had copied the .xml and .pdb files into the folder.

I have done some more tests and noticed that I can also get a compiler error that reports a versioning conflict with System.Core when I have the RadControls DLL/XML/PDB in the PublicAssemblies folder. Removing the RadControls files allows successful compilation.

I wonder is this is a tooling issue in Visual Studio 2010.

Thanks
Russell

Hi Rus,

I managed to reproduce your problem. I have 2 suggestions:
1. Add our DLLs to the references and before adding anything in the XAML try build the project.

2. Do you have Microsoft Silverlight 4 Tools for Visual Studio 2010 installed on your PC. You can check in your Programs and Features. I tested on two machines one have only the SL4 SDK and Developers Runtime and the issue doesn't occur there. The test PC on which I was able to reproduce the issue except for this two have the Microsoft Silverlight 4 Tools for Visual Studio 2010 installed. After removing it the issue disappears.  We will try to investigate further what exactly is the cause.

Please, let me know how it goes and thank you for your report.

Intellisense is not working in Dev Studio 2010.  I upgraded a Dev Studio 2008 SL3 solution to DS 2010 SL4 and Intellisense is not working.

What is the procedure to get Intellisense to work?

OK, I am getting frustrated with this.  I un-installed all versions of the Telerik controls.  I then installed the Silverlight 4 2010 1 422 version and I cannot get Dev Studio 2010 RTM to work with the telerik controls.  On a brand new telerik c# solution, the controls show up in the toolbox, but I cannot drop from the toolbox onto my xaml.  On an existing solution, intellisense will not work in the xaml.

What are my steps to get this to work?

Hey,

I have also been having issues with Intellisense in VS2010 for the Rad Controls.
I uninstalled Microsoft Silverlight 4 Tools for Visual Studio (and rebooted), but that didn't make the difference for me.

Boyan mentioned something in a previous post about a publicAssemblies folder? I'm not aware of such a place and wonder if that's what I am missing to get intellisense to work.

FYI I am running Windows 7, and this project was previously converted from VS2008.

Hi guys,

Could you please try to install the latest official Silverlight 4 Tools for Visual Studio 2010 and let us know if this fix the issues with the intellisense.
You can find it here:

I installed the latest toolkit.  I reset the toolbox, closed and opened the solution and the XAML intellisense still does not work.

Installing the new version (May) of the silverlight 4 tools did the trick for me! I previously had a version dated in April.

Thanks Hristo and the Telerik team. It's a fair amount easier coding without having to remember all property names... : )

Hi John,

Is the screenshot taken from the latest assemblies? Or is it from the older ones and you want to say that this tooltip is not visible anymore? Usually it shows the XML comments from the assembly. To view the full help you can either download the CHM files from here or browse it online.

To my regret we do not integrate our help into Visual Studio 2010. It is in our plans, but I cannot promise a deadline.

Hello Veselin,
I confirm that it's the latest assemblies I have...
I only need the xml comments I never use the VS help system ;)

I tried to unstall and install the Q3 libs again and no xml help with your assemblies.
I have the xml help with the microsoft libs or with my own libs for exemple...

What can I try to get the xml comments back?
Thank you,
John.

Hello John,

Please copy the respective .xml files to the folder where your referenced assemblies reside and restart Visual Studio.

For example, for RadComboBox you need to copy the Telerik.Windows.Controls.Input.xml file.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi John,

These files are in the Binaries / Silverlight subfolder of the folder where you installed the Silverlight suite.
What I usually do when creating a blank project is to create a folder Lib in my project and copy the needed assemblies there. Then I add references to those assemblies. So, usually I copy only the dll files and not the xml files. Hence, the xml comments are missing. Probably your case is similar?

Best wishes,
