Hi All,

I have created a report in Report Designer (Standalone) whose neme is test.trdx.Which is working fine.

Now i have installed report server to publish test.trdx report in report server.

So i have uploaded test.trdx report file in report server. But when i click on test.trdx in report server then it shows error.

"Unable to get report parameters.
An error has occurred.
Unable to establish a connection to the database. Please, verify that your connection string is valid. In case you use a named connection string from the application configuration file, make sure the name is correct and the connection string settings are present in the configuration file of your application".

Thanks,

Hello Narender,

In addition, on designing a report you can select a connection string existing on the Report Server or a local one. You can also create a new connection string.
The specified connection string can be hard-coded in the report and it will be the same after publishing the report.
The other case is to save the connection string by name, and after publishing the report the connection strings will be copied on the Report Server (if the user has rights for this operation; otherwise, the connection string will be hard-coded in the report). Saving the connection string by name allows you to edit the connection string saved with the selected name on the server without modifying the report.

I hope this helps.

Hi Stef,

In report designer i have selected a sql data sorce connection. In configueation wizard, I have chosen build new data connection and chose sql connection data provider. So in this way i have  build a connection string. After that i have chosen Alias name under use as shared connection.

In Report server, I have uploaded a .trdx file of report designer. After that i selected DATA option and then given connection name (the Alias name which i have given in report designer already) and  selected sql client data provider under data provider option and then given connection string name(which i have build in report designer already).

If i am not provide connection name and connection string in Report server under DATA option then it give me the error. So i am giving the same alias and connection string manaually in report server.

I am following this process.Am i right??

Thanks,

Narender

Hi Narender,

Create a user that have access to read and modify reports and connections. Then user can use the Standalone Report Designer tool to create reports, where the designer tool must be connected to the server.

On designing a report, the user can add a SqlDataSource component configured with a connection string of choice. Saving the connection string by name, will set the SqlDataSource.ConnectionString to the name of the connection string.

On publishing the report, the connection string will be saved on the server under Data. In case the connection string is not valid when used by the Report Server, the user can open the Admin module >Data tab and edit the saved connection string - only the name must remain the same to avoid issues on displaying the report.

If I am misunderstanding the question, please open a support ticket and send us a video illustrating the described steps and the issue.
