I would like to build an intranet web site with a similar look and feel to the Visual Studio "Start Page". It's the anoying page with Microsoft headlines that opens every time you run Visual Studio 2005 or 2008. I prefer the 2005 look but 2008 works. I recently spent hours scouring the web looking for a good layout ideas and there it was right infront of me all the time!

Are there any Telerik controls that can produce a similar look and feel? I would like the boxes and headers to use pre built Telerik skins. I wish there was a Rad panel or Rad group box with lots of prettyness options for producing this look. I have looked at the RadDock and Rad Windows controls. They seem to be the closest examples. Does anyone have any suggestions???

Thanks,
Greg

Hello Greg,

Unfortunately, the RadControls collection does not have any inbuilt control similar to a panel or a groupbox. But you can achieve the required feature using divs and nested divs which can hold other controls. You can add styles to the div container to get the desired look as well.

Thanks
Princy.

Princy,

Thanks for the reply. I'm new to Telerik and I was hoping they had a really easy way already setup to do this. A nice feature for them to add to Telerik would be some skin enabled drag and drop controls for doing group boxes, lines, backgrounds, fancy buttons, etc. That way we could simply change a web sites skin and all these common elements would change to match the new skin. The key feature for me is that it would work with the existing skins.

They could call it "Rad Controls for the Aesthetically Challenged" or "Rad Controls for programmers who need a nice look but don't have the time". HeHeHe... Ok, I was joking with those names but there is a real need for something like this. Most programmers (like me) are not good at the aesthetics and prettiness aspects of web design. If Telerik had some prebuilt components that would sure help me out...

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the suggestion. Most of the customers are OK with the current capabilities of RadDock and RadFormDecorator for similar scenarios. If we get more requests for similar layout capabilities we will research this further and add to our ToDo list.
