hi Telerik

Gives any of your controls for WP7 the same feature as a web gridview from the asp.net world ?.

What I want is to editing, delete, update and insert data through an app, which is connected to
a SQL server on a desktop placed anywhere in the world.

Hi Ken,

A GridView control targeting the WP7 platform is considered a bit heavyweight due to the limited screen estate provided by a mobile phone.

However, we are really interested to hear some further details on your scenario. For instance, how do you possibly see using a grid control on the phone as an end user, especially modifying the data used to populate it?

Currently, a popular way to visualize a list of data items on a mobile phone is using a ListBox control and providing a data template for the visual items according to the specific requirements. Editing data happens on a separate page containing the needed input controls pre-loaded with the information from the currently edited row.

We look forward to receiving the requested details.

hi thanks

Telerik

Well an example could be management of machines (automation, PLCs and Robots).

Where a PLC is controlled by data from a SQL server, same with a Robot.

So you can change the data in the SQL server or through a internet site connection to the
SQL server.

But in both situation you need to have your laptop with you, and you will have problems
if you are in the production hall with this laptop, internet connection and not very handy to
have with you.

So in this situation it could be very useful thing to have a smartphone app which can
connect the SQL server and change the data in a correction situation, etc. could be
correct a robot arm with 1 inch.

There could be a lot of situations where it could be useful to have an APP.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for writing back and for the requested details.

Writing a smartphone app that would do the tasks you describe for Windows Phone 7 is possible. The most popular control that developers use to visualize and edit data lists is a listbox control with a corresponding item template that defines how the items/rows in the list control will appear. Editing data happens by selecting the item/row and opening a page which exposes the corresponding controls for editing the selected data object's properties.

I hope this answers your questions.

You can write back anytime you have further questions or need assistance.
