If you are reading this article you should have access to the private preview version of NativeScript, running inside Telerik AppBuilder. If by any reason you still haven't received your activation/welcome email - please drop us a line on valentin.stoychev@telerik.com and we will take care.

As a start you can watch the recording of our Getting Started with NativeScript webinar.

Update:
Please use EBay's RedLaser app as a QR reader at the moment to avoid problems with app deployment on device.

Valio, as I was reading the above info. and Setup from docs, my question is, can we currently use AppBuilder environment to run test apps in ApBuilder on the device simulator? Or do we have to run the apps on the actual device?

Thanks!

Hi Ben - running on a simulator is not supported currently. You have to deploy the apps on an actual device.

For the next drop - v0.2 which is coming in the end of July, you will be able to use the native emulators to run the apps done in NativeScript.

Thanks!

A few initial problems I can't get by...
- I cloned the Cuteness sample app -- no problem
- I want to 'run' the app and am prompted with a QR code for a NativeScript:// link -- I use my iPhone and open that in a browser... FAIL.
- I install the AppBuilder (manually because the QR code that shows me to get the app fails FYI) companion app thinking maybe that understands the nativescript:// protocol - nope, FAIL

??

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the feedback!

There are two possible issues you maybe hitting:
1. QR reader may not be able to run the link in a proper way - we figured out, the hard way, that some QR readers are not opening the nativescript:// protocol, but instead are starting a search in google or bing. To fix this we will add a QR code reader directly into the companion app at a later stage. For the moment the QR code reader that we know that it works for iOS and Android is called Red Laser (https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/redlaser-barcode-scanner-shopping/id474902001?mt=8)

2. The second issue you maybe hitting is a bug in the iOS companion app that do not allow deployment of more than one app twice. In this case you should uninstall the companion app and install it again every time you want to deploy on the device :(. It is very inconvenient - we are working on fixing this ASAP, so expect and update very soon.

Other than that your expectations are correct. Once you have installed the companion app it should understand the "nativescript://" protocol and should open when QR reader scans the url.

Please let me know how it goes and if these recommendations are fixing the problem for you.

Greetings,
Valio
