Telerik team,

We encounter the error of 'Failed to launch the browser' when we try to do a record test in windows server 2003 SP2, using IE8. We're using trial version 2010_2_830. We tried creating new test projects and always encounter the same error. Pls refer to attachment for the error message. Pls help. Thanks

Hello ching ping,

Please review this article on how to configure your system (Server 2003/2008) and this one for the IE8 configuration.
Also please have in mind that WebUI TestStudio requires Administrator privileges to run properly so be sure to run it form admin account.

Hi,

After the configuration changes made as per advised, the error 'Failed to launch the browser' is solved and we are able to record test. But now we're having another problem. Our web application is using LDAP to get user's information and check whether the user has the right to access the web. After we removed the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration, we are not able to launch the web in the build server as there'll be a LDAP error. Is there any workaround for our LDAP environment??

Hello ching ping,

Unfortunately there is no work around for this. You should either try to reconfigure your application or use different machine(non Server edition) to run your tests.

We logged this to investigate this problem as a new feature.

Best wishes,

Hi,

We are able to solve the issue using another workaround which is manually assigned a fake user when the LDAP canot find any user.
For the configuration changes for windows server and IE as u suggested, is it possible to inlclude it in patch so that we dun need to maintain the configuration changes manually as it will be painful for us in the future. Thanks

Hello ching ping,

I am not certain what exactly you are asking us to include in a patch.

  • Are you asking us to automatically make the necessary IE changes for automation to work? Most people do not like programs that change their IE configuration.
  • Or are you asking us to modify our tool to not require these IE configuration changes? This we are actively working on. We have reworked how we connect to and control IE for our upcoming Q3 release. We're still testing, but it's possible that disabling Enhanced Security Configuration
in IE will no longer be required when Q3 is released to the public.
Would it be possible for you to perform your tests on a non-Server edition of Windows? Enhanced Security Configuration only exists on Server editions of Windows.

Sincerely yours,
Cody

Hi,

It will be good if disabling Enhanced Security Configuration in IE will no longer be required. That is what we're looking for.

We need to run our tests on both non-server and server windows.
