Hope the addition of a ScriptManager to the page helped having the problem fixed.

Thanks Erjan, I re-installed the kit and my site was working again.
I opted for manual install originally, after un-installing the sharepoint solition using powershell there must be some binaries or work that is additionally done in the msi automatic installation package. I downloaded the automatic install, and now thins are working correctly.
