I just started using the latest controls for SL3. In the older version, a floating pane had what I would call a pane inside a window. The inner pane had a drop down where you could select "Tabbed document". Although I do like the look of the new control I can no longer dock a floating pane into the document host if there is no other pane in the document host.

Hello Scott,

This change is by design. We try to make RadDock behave exactly like VS2008 docking. If you check there it has the same behavior, when there is only one pane in the ToolWindow the pane header is hidden. However there is a way to open the dropdown , there is a Context menu on Pane Headers that opens with  Ctrl+ LeftClick. This is working also on the ToolWIndow header.

I hope this suit your needs.

All the best,

Hi

I am faced with the same problem. When there is only one toolwindow I can only dock it to the sides – not the center. It’s pretty annoying for the user. Would you consider adding the center option.

User experience must come before compatibility with “visual studio” which behavior is only known to developers.

Thanks for your help Boyan.

I'm not sure about VS2008 behavior but attached is a picture of VS2010 which shows a down arrow with a drop down and the ability to "dock as tabbed document". I agree with the other post. It would be best not to mimic another product especially since you had the behavior before and then removed it once users of the control got used to this functionality. This is really loss of functionality.

If you reimplement I like the look of the VS2010 vs what you have before with a window inside a pane.

Hi Scott,

Thank you for your suggestion. We will consider implementing this feature. I added it in PITS. The title of the item is "Add DropDown menu button to the ToolWindow when no header is displayed.". It should appear in shortly.

The attached project demonstrates an approach to implement this with a custom theme for the Docking control. Unfortunately it is not straight-forward to hide the button when not needed.

Kind regards,

Just FYI, I tried the latest version of the Silverlight 4 controls and there is a square compass that allows you to re-dock the floating window back into the document host.

Thanks!

Hello Scott,

Yes, you are right - we added this feature. I forgot that the initial problem was to dock the pane to the document host.
