Hey telerik people - I really prefer the old forum layout. It was MUCH easier to navigate. I mean, the treeview made it so easy to switch to view the forum posts from one control to another.  WHY DID YOU CHANGE THIS???

Hello Kevin,

We agree with you that the old layout made it easier to navigate from one forum to another.
However, we found that the majority of people stick to only one or two favorite forums. The treeview navigation was not really used and it occupied extra space.

For your situation, where you need to check several forums, we're currently developing a widget for bookmarking pages and accessing them from a convenient location within the website.

Kind regards,
Martin Petrov

How about a way to view unread posts?

and how about a way to show active posts?

and how about a way to show unanswered posts?

Lastly, how about a way to mark all posts as read?

These are common functions almost all known message boards have, but are no way to be found here.  These functions are critical tracking the message boards and keeping up with them.

Hi Patrick,

You made some good observations!

Part of the functionality you requested is being considered for implementation, such as...

  • ability to view unread posts;
  • highlighting the most active threads;
  • filtering answered/unanswered threads.

As to the "mark all as read" - we're still researching whether most forum visitors need such functionality.

Currently there is a trend among forums to simplifying the interface by reducing features. As an example I want to point you to the newly redesigned Google Forums, where they cut some of the functionality they had in the previous version.

All the best,

Well, since this is built off of sitefinity, I would assume these are features that would extend the functionality of that product as well.

Having the features which google and others clearly do, and turning them off for simplicities sake is much different then not having the features.

My standard practice for participating in forums is to view all new threads (which is a simple function of a search area, just return all posts which have a flag of unread) and read / respond to which ones I see are new.

Other sites, like Microsoft, have the ability to view active posts, which is handy to see the posts that people are discussing the most from.  As well as view any unanswered posts, which really helps the community grow by focusing on those simple buried posts that need answers.

Lastly, the search feature is broken.  It returns duplicate results for any search.  I would assume it has something to do with your URL redirect actions.

Also, the KB articles from the help files links do not work, just go to 404 error pages.

Hi Patrick,

The current forums aren't built on Sitefinity. As it was explained in a previous thread theese are the old telerik forums with a new skin and a clearer interface. We will migrate them to brand new Sitefinity forums later.

As Martin said, we are considering to implement the features you suggested. The bugs you reported are addressed and certainly will be fixed.

Slow...  Hard to navigate...  I can't find the source code for the new updated CRM application.  The search functionality used to work, now %?@&^*$!!!

I would like to give a positiv feedback.

I like the new forum, simple and good readable.

The speed of the forum is fine.

Navigation isn't a problem, because I'm not switching often from one thread to another.

The only thing I'm missing, is support of Opera for the "Your account" part.

Me too missed the tree view forum list.

Why not just put the tree view in a RadSlidingPane if you found it took so many space?
