I wanted something where I could drag something from outside the
grid to a slot in the timeline. Something like
http://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-ajax/scheduler/examples/draganddropintegration/defaultcs.aspx?product=scheduler
but using java
Can someone help?

Hello Lalitha,
For your convenience I created small example which demonstrates how to achieve the desired behavior:
Telerik UI for JSP: Scheduler Drag and Drop to Grid
In order to run the above example you would need the offline application that comes with the UI for JSP installation under the following folder:
\wrappers\jsp\spring-demos - a sample JSP Spring MVC application.
Then you can find the following view and replace the existing code with the one, provided above:
\spring-demos\src\main\webapp\WEB-INF\views\scheduler\index.jsp
