The filtering on the RadComboBox works great, but I want to customize it so that when I use a combobox with Filter set to 'Contains', the filtering is done on multiple keywords instead of just one string.
For example, if I type "Apple Banana" into the combobox, I would like the filter to filter down to items containing "Apple" and "Banana" in their text, instead of items containing the string "Apple Banana". Is there a simple way to do this?  I appreciate any advice you can offer.

Couldn't find a simpler solution, so I just used the LoadOnDemand feature.

Hello Brett,

Unfortunately, this scenario is not supported out of the box. We are working on some similar functionality, but it is far from ready right now, but most probably there will be a public, fully functional alpha version in April.

Hello,

I am afraid that this feature was delayed due to more urgent tasks and at the moment we cannot specify a delivery date.

Any news?

BTW, have you seen the way filtering works in the search box at http://www.google.com/finance. They must use some frequency data in addition to contains filtering. Apparently the new BlackBerry Z10 is doing some amazing things behind the scenes to save typing. Story at http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/31/technology/the-blackberry-refreshed-lives-to-fight-another-day.html.

The contains filtering you have now is not so bad.

Hello Mark,

Thank you for your feedback.

Still customizing the filtering behavior is not supported in RadComboBox.  However. I would suggest to check our RadAutoCompleteBox control - http://demos.telerik.com/silverlight/#AutoCompleteBox/FirstLook - with it you will be able to achieve similar behavior as it allows to customize its FilteringBehavior property.

All the best,

Hello Telerik team,

Is there an update? I am using the "Contains filter" but I would also like it the filtering to be done on multiple keywords instead of one string. Is there a working example for this?

Hello Raoul,

I am afraid that we do not have this feature in our immediate plans - with the release of AutoCompleteBox which provides the option of customizing the filtering behavior,  this feature was delayed for RadComboBox and at the moment we cannot commit to any timeframe for it.

We're sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Well now that it's been another 4.5 years since the previous post, yet my search brought me here, I would like to ask again. Is there any update on this?

I have implemented the filtering behavior I want in the AutoCompleteBox, but now I find myself making a lot of changes to make an AutoCompleteBox that looks and acts just like a ComboBox. It would be much easier for me if the ComboBox just let me customer the filter behavior.

Hello Brian,

With the latest versions of our controls, RadComboBox control provides a way to customize its filtering behavior. I would suggest you take a look at the Filtering Behavior help article of the RadComboBox for more information. There is also SDK sample project CustomFiltering in our GitHub repository for RadComboBox control.

Fantastic! Thank you! Might I suggest the documentation for RadComboBox Filtering be updated to mention this and link to the Filtering Behavior docs? I totally missed it when looking through the documentation.
