I'm unable to determine which rules apply for the grouping in a dropdownlist like in this picture... Does anyone know?

Hello David,
Please take a look at this Telerik Dojo which illustrates how to style Group Headers. I used my console to find the properties needed to change the stying.
This is an example of a Kendo DropDownList using Grouping as seen in this demo. You can find out more about GroupTemplates and FixedTemplates in our documentation.
