A previous developer was developing a mobile app using on the the online IDE. I need to take over development on the app and I want to use the AppBuilder extension for VisualStudio. Can someone explain how I can go from cloning an existing repository of the app to having it in a Visual Studio solution?

I found the answer. The AppBuilder extension for Visual Studio has an option called "Get Code from Cloud" in the menu. I used it and I was able to see the apps associated with the account and was able to download them locally. AppBuilder even recognized the apps with in source control so it cloned the repo. It was all very easy.
