Hello KendoUI Team,

One issue we've encountered that we were hoping you could shed some light on is the behavior that occurs when copy/pasting cells with attached validation, similar to the issue seen with disabled cells here: http://www.telerik.com/forums/copy-paste-of-disabled-cells .

We have our spreadsheet set so that we define the validation for each of the spreadsheet's columns.  However we've noticed that when a user copy/pastes between cells of different columns, it also copies the validation over which is less than ideal for what we are trying to accomplish.

You can replicate the behavior I'm seeing on the kendo demo page: https://demos.telerik.com/kendo-ui/spreadsheet/validation

-> on the demo page, copy cell B7 (christina.toms) into an empty cell like H7 or a cell with existing validation like D7.  You will notice that the red flag as well as the cell's associated data validation is copied as well and will end up overriding any of the other cell's initial validation rules.  Any suggestions so that we can work around this and have it copy only the cell value?

Best,
Jeff

Hello Jeffrey,

Apologies for the delayed response.

I can confirm that this behaviour is expected. The same behaviour can be observed in both MS Excel and Google Spreadsheet.

I can suggest submitting a feature request in our UserVoice portal, and based on its popularity we may implement it in a future release. We are closely monitoring the UserVoice portal to help us decide which is more wanted from our customers:

I am looking to purchase Kendo UI for my organization, but lack of a workaround for this intended functionality might be a deal-breaker.  We were hoping to use Kendo Spreadsheet as an input for an API, but in order to do that, we need confidence that the validation rules will apply.

It looks like there might be some reasonable workarounds (see links below), although I agree that having a context menu would be helpful.

Hello Brian,

The feature request you linked is among the highest voted Spreadsheet features and will be considered for future implementation. There is room for improvement in this area and we have also logged this in our Github repo as a potential enhancement.
