Please forward to the team that created the control panel installers.

I donwloaded the control panel (also the control panel version of ASP.NET AJAX)  and install it on a Windows 7 64bit machine.

I keep getting the error:

Hi Michael,

Thank you for contacting us.

It seems that the installer failed to run from your %temp% folder due to access permissions. We have received some reports from clients with the same issue and in the most cases the problem was caused by a McAfee anti-virus software. Do you have any McAfee products running?

Looking forward to your reply.

Kind regards,
Chavdar,

Thanks.

I selected McAfee's 'Disable App Blocking' and had the same problem.
Then I selected McAfee's 'Disable IPS' and then the Control panel installed, and executed properly.

Please generate a forum for your products that do not yet exist, i.e., for control panel issues and/or make this item searchable.

Thanks,

Hi,

I have the same problem and unfortunately I don't have access to disable McAfee on work laptops.  Is there any other way I can install this trial?

Cheers

The only way you can get it on your work loaptop is to ask IT to create a policy for allowing the application. I am assuming you are a programmer and you have admin privileges on you system.

Unfortunately I work for a multinational company who is very security conscious, and disabling antivirus isn't an option for myself.  I don't understand why this is the only install that is blocked by McAfee?!?!

For those having the same issue, check out another thread.  There is an option.

Hi Peter,

Sorry for joining the thread so late. I can confirm that using the offline installation packages should indeed resolve the issue.

We have been looking into the McAfee-related issues, but to no avail. We have a few planned changes coming up which should hopefully resolve the issue altogether.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you experience any further issues.

The installation is not the only problem. In order for me to run the Control Panel, I still need to disable McAfee's Host Intrusion IPS setting. If I do not desble it, I get the following error:

[Window Title]
C:\Program Files (x86)\Telerik\Control Panel\Telerik.CommonInstaller.ControlPanel.exe

[Content]
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

[OK]

It does not matter if I run as Admin or not.

Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael,

Are you still starting the downloaded executable or are you actually running the installed executable directly (for instance via the start menu shortcut)?

I can assure you we have performed all the necessary actions in order to make security software identify our software as safe (stated the permissions we need in the file manifest, signed all of our executables using our code-sign certificate).

All the best,
Andrey

Andrey,

To install the control panel:
  •  I needed to disable IPS.
  • Install control panel.
  • Enable IPS.

To run the control panel (every time):
  • I need to disable IPS.
  • Run control panel.
  • Close control panel.
  • Enable IPS.

Does this clarify?

Michael

Is there a solution that does not involve altering Mcafee settings? I am on a corporate machine, and I have no access to Mcafee settings.
I have no way of installing the latest builds, as I can not install the control panel.

Hi,

Philip, a workaround is using the offline installations which can be acquired from here (click browse all files and then choose 'Automatic installation').

We have recently released a new version of the Control Panel in which some of the McAfee issues are resolved. You can try the running the Control Panel again.

Please let me know how that went.

Teodor

Control Panel still will not install

The following error occurred attempting to install 'C:\Users\!PHILI~1.HUN\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS0762CEFE\Telerik.CommonInstaller.ControlPanel.exe':
"Access is denied. "

See the setup log file located at 'C:\Users\!PHILI~1.HUN\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD7159.tmp\install.log' for more information.

FYI,

I have admin rights on my corporate machine and I was able to modify files.

McAfee's Host Intrusion program does not like the name Telerik.CommonInstaller.ControlPanel.exe and Telerik.CommonInstaller.ControlPanel.exe.config.

After copying the files and renaming to ControlPanel.exe and ControlPanel.exe.config, respectively and then modifying the content of the config file (Changing the occurrences of "Telerik.CommonInstaller.ControlPanel" to "ControlPanel"), McAfee was happy and the Control Panel executed nicely.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I am a bit lost here. The only file I have is TelerikControlPanelSetup_2012_2_801.exe.

What exactly are you talking about renaming?

Sorry, I was talking about after successful installation of Control Panel. I was mentioning in an earlier post that I had to disable McAfee ISP setting temporarily to get the Control Panel to start up.

BTW, I got the same error you got when I installed that version as well. That is why I went in and made those changes after I sucessfully installed the Control Panel to test out the error message from McAfee.

Good deal, but unfortunately I can not modify the McAfee settings, to get it installed in the first place.

My previous comment is intended for the Telerik developers to remove the extra periods '.' in the exe file as to not trigger McAfee's ISP. :)

Hello,

Michael, thank you for the heads-up. We have a Control Panel release scheduled for next week. I'll see to it that we get our executables renamed so they do not contain dots. Making executable names short is something we should have done from day one anyway.

I'll update this thread once we've released, so you can check that out.

Philip, I would recommend just using our offline installation packages for the time being (before we release the fix Michael proposed). You should be able to get those as well as various other product resources through the "Manage Products" menu on the "Your Account" page (Link).

Hi all,

We just released a new Control Panel version with all executables renamed so they do not have dots in their file name.

Any feedback whether we have the McAfee issues resolved would be most welcome.

Kind regards,
