In Requirements -> View Stories.  I get this error whenever I modify and close certain Stories:

Exception Type: System.NullReferenceException

Exception Message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Hi John,

I'm sorry to hear you are encountering this issue with some of your stories. Since it sounds like the error is data specific ('certain stories'), I'm wondering if you can do an experiment for me?

- Open one of the stories that is a problem and copy the contents of the description field to the clipboard.
- Create a new story, making sure it creates successfully.
- Paste the copied description into the description area of the new story.

If this also results in the same error on the new story, then perhaps we can analyze the content of the description to see if anything specific might be causing the error.

If this does not result in an error, it may be prudent for us to try to extract some more detailed data from your system. Please let us know the results of the above and we will follow the necessary path based on your findings.

I have some more details now.  This happens when I have typed a search string in the SEARCH box, which filters the stories.  Then modifying the story causes the error.  If I remove the Search filter and modify - no error.  This seems to happen consistently on all stories where I have text in the SEARCH box.

Hi John,

Thank you for the additional information. I have tried to reproduce the error locally but have not been able to. Perhaps there are some other pieces of information I can gather:

- On the View stories screen, what View are you on?
- On the View stories screen, what (if any) filters do you have applied (you can hover over the funnel icon to get a list)?
- What change are you making on the story (status change, description change, adding a comment, etc)? Does it matter (ie perhaps changing status causes the error but adding a task does not)?
- After adding a search term to filter the list of stories, how many stories are shown in the grid?

The answers to these questions may help us to reproduce the error and ultimately fix the bug.
