Hi all

I am trying to connect to a workspace in TFS where I had a project set up but I since deleted. I have created a new project and I am trying to connect now to that same workspace so I can check the new project in. It wont let me. It claims the "working folder is a already in use by the same workspace on my computer". So its like someone is already connected.

I guess its because I deleted the original project from the Workspace and I am now trying to connect again to check in a new project.

How do I get round this please?

Cheers

Rob

Hi Rob,

A TFS/Visual Studio  Workspace represents a mapping between the TFS source control and the folders on your local computer. You can have multiple Workspaces for the same computer, each mapping to different folders so long as those folders do not overlap, as well as for different computers.

In Test Studio, you don't connect a test project to a Workspace. You do connect it to a specific TFS server. With all of this in mind, I'm trying to figure out why you're getting this error message in the first place. I think I need more information to understand what is happening and how to over come it.

1) Using Visual Studio I'd like to see what workspaces you currently have defined and what their mappings are, see attached screen shots for reference.
2) What is the folder path to this new project?
3) Would you take a screen shot of this error message and show me?

Hi Cody

Apologies for the delayed reply. I was unable to respond yesterday. Thanks for the information, that helped. I looked at my workspaces. I deleted everything related to Test Studio and was able to start again. I created a new project and I now realise that the project folder you create links to the Project workspace your testing on. I am able to check my test in and out of TFS.

I have a question though, in Test Studio you have a TFS section which has 'Connect', 'Open' and Check in and Check out as options. I think where I am going wrong is I tried to click on Open to re-open my project directly from there through TFS and it asks you to select a local path to save your project in. I thought you could select the path to the project I had already set up.

When I do this however I get the following error. (please see the screen grabs attached.

Maybe I am not using that for what it is intended for??

I have attached screen grabs of the workspace and maps etc too.

Hope this makes sense??

Kind regards

Rob

Hello Rob,

Open, on the TFS portion of our ribbon bar, is meant to get and open a project that is in TFS but NOT on your local HDD. This will perform a "Get Latest" operation first then open the project now copied to your local HDD.

If it's already on your local HDD you should be opening it via the Recent Projects or Open existing project as shown in the attached screen shot.
