Whilst attaching the images in the thread (http://www.telerik.com/community/forums/community-forums/forum-suggestions/username-is-jumping-when-mouse--h-overing-in-the-forums.aspx) I just if you could support zip or swf it would be good. With zip I can attach all in one shot and with swf I can record my screen as a shockwave movie and share it across.

Hi,

In our forums attaching a .zip in unacceptable because of licensing/ security concerns. We cannot allow attaching .zwf for the same reason . Sorry for the caused inconvenience !

Hello Patrick,

Generally speaking, if you want to send a sample project to Telerik, you should use the support ticketing system. In the forums you can only attach screenshots or you can use the Code Snippet tool for pasting code excerpts.

Not everyone has access to support ticket right? So does the general contact page going to accomodate attachments?

Hello Deepak,

Every trial user or one with purchased license has access to the support ticketing system. As for the forums, one of the main reason why archives are not allowed in most of the subforums, is the protection of our clients' investment. A lot of our product have Developer versions, so if a client upload an archive with a project that contains Dev version of a certain product, anyone can download it and use the paid Dll for free. That is why we allow archives only for certain products like the Telerik Extensions for MVC for example, where the paid and the free (open license) versions are the same and the only difference is the paid support for the commercial version.

Dear Georgi,

Hope I am not harsh but your statement is not acceptable. When you upload a project it is quite simple to scan the files. I think you should be doing the first level virus scan to ensure integrity of the files. The next level you can scan the files for possible assemblies and for valid .NET assemblies a quick check against Telerik manifests should not be a big deal. I think Telerik does support script injection checks. Hence along with that this check can also be introduced.

In fact an asp.net hosting website (Brinkster) is able to scan the asp pages saved/uploaded in file manager for malicious tags.

If there are still vulnerabilities in the proposal you can allow attachments to appear after a slight delay. IMHO, It is better late than never. Something  is better than nothing.

Hello again Deepak,

I am not saying that this is not possible, but the implementation of the whole workflow however is not so simple - for example, what happens if the version is "wrong", who will be monitoring the whole process, will the problematic archives be simply ignored and not uploaded, or they have to be manually fixed, etc.

In any case, if you really want to put an archive in a forum that doesn't allow such types of attachments, there are ways to do that - link to file sharing or own server for example. Still if you have a sample project and need assistance from the tech staff, it is best to use the support ticketing system as this is the best way to reach our support staff - the system assigns a response time for all of your questions, depending on your license and ensures that all questions will reach the respective developers, if needed. In addition, you will be able to review your support history at your leisure. In this way your issues will be managed more precisely.
