After setting the itemsource of the radcarousel with items. I can't use set the selecteditem with an item I know it's the itemsource collection.

That is a knows issue and it is scheduled to be fixed in the first service pack after Q3. Nevertheless if that feature is very important to you we could possibly provide you with a custom build that solves the problem.
