Hi All-

The Bing! Maps accessible through the Telerik provider are VERY out of date and the OpenStreetsMap provider documentation does not illustrated how to perform the same functionality as is available for the Bing! provider.

How do we access up-to-date maps in Bing! or where can I find documenation on how to implement search and route functionality using OpenStreetMaps provider?

Thank you!

Hello Scott,

Thank you for writing.

RadMap is using the REST API provided by Microsoft for downloading the tiles displayed in the control. The data provided by the service has some differences compared to the Bing Maps V8 SDK engine, more importantly, the REST service is using static tiles while the Bing Map control is using a dynamic tile service. You can check the following thread discussing this matter: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/96f40a60-72ff-45e2-b3db-200e2cf1ad31/bing-maps-website-vs-bing-maps-layer-in-html-for-china?forum=bingmaps.

As to the OpenStreetMap project, currently, they do not have reliable search and route providers. In this respect, this functionality is not implemented for the RadMap control and its OpenStreetMapProvider.

I hope this helps. Should you have further questions please do not hesitate to write back.

Regards,
Hristo
