The watermark is working differently than in native Windows Phone dialogs. If there is empty RadTextBox with watermark and I tap it, the watermark should disappear and not be visible until I type first letter.
It can be seen in the telerik samples WP app, it behaves as expected in the password box, but not in the other boxes.

Hi Martin,
This behavior is an improvement of the watermarks in WP. Here we stress on usability, saving precious real estate and overall user experience. The watermark can be used as a label within the textbox and it would be inappropriate to hide the label on focus. By not hiding the watermark, the user's short-term memory is not challenged and they don't need to remember what the field was for.
If you have other questions, don't hesitate to write us back.

It might be improvement, but you should definitely provide way to change this behavior to actual default Windows Phone behavior, using something like HideWatermarkOnFocus="true". I don't want my controls to behave differently than default input boxes in system apps like ToDo list or Alarms.

Hello Martin,
The new property is named HideWatermarkOnFocus as you suggested and it is added in both RadTextBox and RadPasswordBox controls. You can download our latest internal build from your account and give it a try.
I have added some telerik points to your account for suggesting this feature.
Kind regards,
