Hi,

I just wanted to ask if the Telerik controls are backwards compatible (especially for WinForms/WPF).
E.g. we develop a program using controls of the Telerkik version X and then deploy this program on a target system (plus installing the controls of version X into the GAC of the target system).
Will there be issues if Telerik controls of a later version are installed on the target system (in the GAC)?

Kind regards ,
Bernhard

Hi,

Thank you for writing.

In general we strive to keep out release backward compatible and to keep breaking changes at the possible minimum. However, this sometimes is not possible. Our products are very feature rich, and we get more and more feature requests on daily basis and with the time in order to satisfy these requests, sometimes we need to introduce breaking changes. However, when we do I can assure that that all of them are necessary in order to allow the enhancements in the functionality requested by our users.

With every release we publish release notes - WinForms release notes, WPF release notes, where we enlist the changes we have made. When there are breaking changes they are listed too and we always try to enlist how the change should be handled from our users. Here is an example:

Removed the RequestResize(AppointmentElement, SchedulerVisualElement, ResizeOptions) method overload from the AppointmentResizingBehavior as it was redundant. Use one of the other overloads instead.
In regards to deploying in GAC, please note that you will have to first build the assemblies as described in the following articles, in order to comply with our EULA and to keep our intellectual property:
- For WPF: Protecting Telerik UI assembly - see section Building the Telerik assembles from source code
- For WinForms: Redistributing Telerik UI for WinForms - see section Building the Telerik assembles from source code

I hope that the provided information addresses your question.

Regards, Stefan
