Apostrophes precede negative numbers in excel worksheet exports

Hi Forum,

Has anyone found that when exporting a report from the viewer and choosing the "Excel Worksheet" option from the format dropdown that all negative values in a report grid are preceded by a single apostrophe (')?  I know single apostrophes in excel are used to escape formulas, but the negative sign (-) should not be interpreted as a formula in excel when placed in front of a numeric value so I'm not sure why there would be a need to add apostrophes.

Hi Derek,

Please check if the field is of a numeric type. The issue is not reproducible on exporting the attached report (v10.2.16.1025) in XLS and XLSX format.

If it is of other type or you use a custom formatting, instead of the TextBox.Format property, you can use the Format text function and custom check for negative values to format the value. Before proceeding please go through this ux.stackexchange thread.

hi Stef,

Thanks for the response above.  For the field in question in the Report Explorer > Properties > Appearance > Format field, I am using a numeric type {0:N5}.  In the telerik viewer, the numbers appear in the correct format but as soon as I export to XLS or XLSX there is an apostrophe in front of all negative values in the excel file.

I am using version 10.1.16.615, could that be part of the problem?  Also, is there a version of the report above that uses the .trdx format?

The attached demo report (TRDX file) is created and tested with the latest version of Telerik Reporting and v10.1.16.816. Please let us know how to modify the report to reproduce the problem in XLS and XLSX files.
