I am new to SL is there a way for me to add items to MapNavigation? I need to add an item that will make a layer visible true and visible false. An code examples would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Roger,
The MapNavigator is a control which performs map navigation only (panning left, right, top and bottom). The control which perform commands is MapCommandBar. Unfortunately it can't be extended with custom commands in the current version. We will add this functionality in the future releases. You can check availability of this feature using our PITS:
