Telerik Enters Automated Desktop Testing Market with Latest Test Studio Release

Broad array of upgrades introduce support for WPF test automation, better reporting, and simplified licensing model

WALTHAM, MA, MAY 2, 2011Telerik, an end-to-end provider of software application lifecycle and content management solutions, today unveiled a host of new features and upgrades to Telerik Test Studio, the company’s next-generation automated testing tools suite. This latest release focuses on improving overall productivity and ease-of-use, as well as supporting desktop test automation for Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and integrating with TeamPulse, Telerik’s agile project management solution. With the debut of WPF testing capabilities, Telerik Test Studio, formerly “WebUI Test Studio”, now offers broader functionality extending from the web further into desktop testing. It also significantly expands the suite’s reporting capabilities, greatly enhancing the overall user experience and making it one of the market’s most easy-to-use testing solutions.

“Maximized productivity is mission-critical in today’s swift-moving, results-oriented agile ecosystem, yet the automated testing tools market has suffered from a lack of products that combine robust functionality with ease-of-use and value,” said Christopher Eyhorn, executive vice president, Testing Tools Division, Telerik. “Telerik is redefining what test automation can and should be by removing barriers that can stifle productivity and velocity. We’ve simplified our licensing model, taken ease-of-use to the next level, and added WPF support. With this release, Telerik Test Studio solidifies its position as one of the most intuitive, forward-looking automated testing tools solutions available today.”

Telerik Test Studio offers a complete web and desktop testing solution, with new support for WPF and existing support for platforms like Silverlight, HTML, and AJAX. Test scenarios for WPF applications can be recorded and played easily via the product’s intuitive point-and-click interface, extending Telerik Test Studio’s functionality deeper into the desktop testing arena. The product also offers integrated support for TeamPulse. Integration with the agile project management solution enables linking between user stories and acceptance test criteria to functional tests within Telerik Test Studio. The release also unveils native support for Telerik RadControls for WPF, offering users a richer, more productive testing environment with better verifications and actions at the control level.

Telerik Test Studio’s reporting feature is also being significantly upgraded and expanded. New functionalities include the ability to explore test list results over time, better exporting of reports in common file formats, and support for user commenting within reports. The release introduces enhanced visualization of test results through interactive graphs and charts. Users can now generate more meaningful graphs that support drill-downs, as well as having single test list results displayed in easy-to-read pie charts. With this expanded functionality, spotting test pass/failure trends and identifying weak spots in applications being tested is swift and effortless.

As of this release, Telerik Test Studio features a greatly simplified licensing structure that avoids complex pricing models that are prevalent across the industry. Under the new licensing model, multiple products have been condensed into a single SKU, providing a comprehensive solution that includes both web and WPF testing, TeamPulse integration, and Visual Studio plug-in. New pricing has also been introduced, reflecting the suite’s streamlined licensing. Telerik Test Studio will now retail for $2,499.
