– Telerik, the leading vendor of developer tools and components for .NET, is pleased to announce the release of Sitefinity CMS v3.6. Sitefinity is a flexible ASP.NET-based content management platform for the construction and management of commercial websites, community portals, intranets and personal blogs.
“The CMS market is saturated with over-featured complex solutions that freeze developers’ skills and limit their freedom when building applications”, says Telerik CEO Vassil Terziev.”With version 3.6 of Sitefinity CMS Telerik further empowers developers to tweak every aspect of its core system and add new functionality faster and easier than ever”.
Sitefinity 3.6 features a new backend architecture that makes extensibility easier than ever. Creating custom modules and extending built-in modules has been tremendously simplified allowing developers to save time and effort when building new functionality for their projects. Sitefinity 3.6 also adds a new API that developers can use to further leverage the product’s highly extensible architecture. All of these powerful improvements were added while still ensuring the product is 100% backwards compatible with modules developers already built for their Sitefinity projects.
To further simplify upgrading, Sitefinity 3.6 has begun including control templates as embedded resources. This drastically reduces the number of files included in Sitefinity and eliminates the risk that an upgrade will overwrite customizations.
In addition to the powerful developer customization capabilities, Sitefinity CMS v3.6 introduces a data provider for video libraries using Amazon S3 for data storage and streaming. The new version of Sitefinity CMS also provides native integration with Telerik's Silverlight media player. By using RadMediaPlayer
and Sitefinity's powerful content management capabilities customers can add interactive video content to their website with unprecedented ease.
The introduction of hierarchical categories in Sitefinity v3.6 allows much better organization and structuring of the information on a website. With this new feature it is possible now to implement hierarchy on categories, where one category can be a parent to one or more child categories.
Other valuable updates that are shipped with Sitefinity CMS v3.6 include the ability to use dynamic links. Users will now be able to safely reorder pages in the project’s sitemap without running the risk of breaking any URLs; the newest release of RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX; support for .NET 3.5 framework and more.
