i'm trying to install telerik's dnn zip. I've installed dnn numerous times, so I know some of the most commong problems. I'm getting a connection error to the databse. I have tested the connection parameters in query analyzer and in a udl file. They work fine in those, but not in the web.config. Is there something different regarding the connection string in this dnn install?

ok, I think its working fine now. The web.config that was there didn't seem to work right for some reason. I'm curious as to why, but what I did to make it work was to rename/delete the web.config that came with the zip and renamed the release.config.If I remember right the default dnn 3.1.0 zip does not include a web.config and requires you to change the name of release.config to web.config. They do this so that your original web.config is not overwritten, which is not an issue in my case as this is a fresh install.

well, it looks like there is some telerik specific settings in that web.config. I'm going to try to do a new fresh install and see if it works this 2nd time.

This isn't working. Is there a readme.txt or some type of documentation I'm missing out on here on this dnn zip install?

ok, I finally got the dnn instance to go on the web.config. I still have the licensing error. I looked in the knowledge base and found out that the developer license doesn't require a key, so I copied over the dll's from the msi install I did earlier. Now I get numerous javascript errors. Are the javascript include files missing? If so, where can I find them in my msi install so I can copy them over? and where exactly do I copy them to?

    thank you,

    Darren

ok, now I'm thinking the dll's I copied over to my dnn bin folder are not customized for dnn like the ones that were originally there. I'm still not sure how I can put in a license key that its requesting however. I have a paid subscription and wouldn't want to use the trial key even if I found it.

    Hi Darren,

The DNN package contains the trial versions of the controls. We do not provide DNN versions with dev controls, although this is a good idea that we need to discuss on the next management meeting.

In order to take advantage of your dev purchase, you should manually replace the trial controls with the dev version from your r.a.d.controls Q2 suite. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do that:

    1. Copy the controls' DLLs in the DNN's bin folder. Replace the old ones when asked.
    2. Copy the RadControls folder of r.a.d.editor into DNN's /controls folder. Replace all when asked.
    3. Copy the RadControls folders of the rest controls into /DesktopModules folder (i.e. RadControls folder of r.a.d.menu into /DesktopModules/r.a.d.menu/RadControls/ ).
    4. Reset the local ASP.NET account permissions (modify/write) over the root and all child folders.
    5. If you are using VS, you need to update the assembly references in your project.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you have other question and/or problems.

    Best wishes,
    the telerik team

If you could put this into an article or kb, that would help those like me in the future. J

    Thank you!

i'm sorry. Do you mean you will be taking down your dnn articles at the end of the week or you will be expanding them?

    thanks

We mean that we will create new DNN knowledge base articles, Darren. We have no plans to remove our knowledge base but rather to offer some new articles.

    Kind regards,
    the telerik team
