    We are very pleased to announce the availability of our new “Futures” build of RadControls “Prometheus”. This new build includes our latest developments on all controls in the suite. We are dedicated to involve the community with our progress towards Q2 release (expected in about 3 weeks) and hear your feedback on the new features and improvements we have been working on.

    The new “Futures” build introduces a preview of another great addition to the Prometheus suite – RadEditor “Prometheus”, the first web editor, built on top of ASP.NET AJAX. The “Futures” also bring several enhancements in the rest of the Prometheus controls. You will find now betas of RadWindow and RadInput, the Scheduler and the Chart controls also have a number of new features.

    The “Futures Build” (Telerik.Web.UI_2007_2_830) is now available for download in your Client.Net accounts. Please see attached screenshot.

    RadEditor

    (Please note that this is a work-in-progress and most of the features are still in development and QA)

    • Single-file, drag-and-drop deployment - RadEditor Prometheus takes full advantage of .NET embedded resources, enabling you to deploy RadEditor with a single assembly file and jump-start your development process.
    • Built on top of ASP.NET AJAX - RadEditor Prometheus is a native .Net 2.0 component, designed upon ASP.NET AJAX, utilizing its common client-side framework and programming model. This allows for previously impossible performance and architecture optimizations to offer a small-size, efficient and optimized component with industry-unique level of performance.
    • Unmatched loading speed - The innovative "load as needed" processes will only load the code on client browsers for the features that are being used, significantly improving page load times and Editor responsiveness.
    • Minimalist script size factor - RadEditor's script size has been minimized and additionally compressed for lowest loading time.
    • Full keyboard accessibility - RadEditor Prometheus is a fully keyboard navigable component, including shortcuts to open and operate with drop-downs, tools and dialogs, achieving true accessibility.
    • Custom design ready - The "chameleon" feature of RadEditor Prometheus allows for placing multiple Editors with different skins on one page. This, along with the advanced skinning mechanism, ensures maximum visual blend to cover even the most demanding design schemes.
    • New semantic rendering - The innovative lightweight skinning mechanism steps upon CSS Sprites for rendering Editor tools which results in tremendously optimized loading speed as well as simplified customization through simple CSS.
    • Simplified and intuitive configuration - utilizing inline toolbar declaration, contextually grouped properties and standard ASP.NET 2.0 localization mechanism, RadEditor is a true .NET control that combines the contrasting simplicity and flexibility.
    • Industry-best cross-browser support - RadEditor Prometheus offers the widest cross-browser support on the market, including Opera and Safari for Mac.
    • Out-of-the-box XHTML-enabled output - RadEditor has always provided a number of tools for enforcing XHTML compliant content. Out of the box, RadEditor "Prometheus" will output XHTML compliant content across all major browsers.
    • Integrated inline spellchecker - The convenient inline spellchecker mimics the behavior of the most popular desktop spellchecking mechanisms (such as Microsoft Word) for maximum usability.
    • Integrated controls - RadEditor Prometheus is designed to accommodate unlimited number of integrated controls for additional usability and functionality. Featuring RadSpell for the advanced spelling mechanism and RadWindow Prometheus for the dialogs, RadEditor will soon offer the functionality of the complete list of Telerik controls. The integrated controls are loaded on demand thus ensuing optimal loading speed and scalability.

    ONLINE DEMOS

    RadScheduler

    • Day, Week and Month View provide excellent flexibility for displaying appointments
    • Inline and Advanced editing capabilities
    • RadScheduler is shipped with a set of skins that allow you to build slick interfaces. The skin can be easily switched using a single property. (More skins will be added in the upcoming “Futures” Builds)
    • Custom resources add flexibility to your schedules and allow you to assign appointments to different users (for instance)
    • Recurring appointments are fully supported by RadScheduler
    • RadScheduler’s flexible API and events provide numerous convenient options for customization
    • Rich client-side behavior: appointments can be rescheduled through drag and drop and resizing
    • [NEW] RadScheduler now provides templates (AppointmentTemplate, InlineEditTemplate and InlineInsertTemplate) for unlimited flexibility and customization
    • [NEW] Export to iCalendar
    • [NEW] Height control options: Expand and Scroll, controlled via the OverflowBehavior property.
    • [NEW] Delete confirmation dialog
    • [NEW] A richer set of events now provide a wider range of customization options.

    ONLINE DEMOS

    RadChart

    • RadChart now introduces a new rendering engine which optimizes performance and produces a polished chart image
    • RadChart now supports spline curve areas. The curve behaves the same way the normal spline curve does, but also offers the possibility to fill the belonging area.
    • RadChart now features a so-called "strict mode" for bar series. All XValues will be respected and bars will be positioned according to their XValues. If, however, you don't have any series items with XValues then RadChart will resume standard sequential ordering of each item.
    • RadChart now supports empty values approximation. If your dataset is missing a value RadChart can approximate it for you.
    • Scalebreaks are a new feature of RadChart which allows you to "break off" large chunks of the axis so that graphs with great amplitudes are easier to read.
    • The new intelligent labels feature of RadChart dramatically increases readability in very busy charts.
    • The charting engine now supports newline in all chart labels
    • The new Marked Zones now provide another option for chart customization
    • [NEW] RadChart YAxis now supports logarithmic scaling.
    • [NEW] RadChart introduces a new CandleStick financial chart.
    • [NEW] RadChart is now CLS compliant.

    ONLINE DEMOS

    RadInput

    The control is now migrated to the Prometheus suite and takes full advantage of ASP.NET AJAX framework.

    • RadInput “Prometheus” features a new rendering mechanism which allows for proper support of different width/height units (e.g. percentage).
    • OnValueChanging client-side event is added and several important fixes are now applied to the latest version.

    ONLINE DEMOS

    RadWindow

    The control is now migrated to the Prometheus suite and takes full advantage of ASP.NET AJAX framework.

    • RadWindow “Prometheus” features new transparency and animations effects.
    • You can now set different skins on different windows on the same page.
    • The restriction of always having a RadWindowManager is now removed which allows for easier customizability in a broader range of scenarios.

    ONLINE DEMOS

    RadControls “Prometheus” Futures Build is intended for preview only and we do not recommend using the bits in production. The controls are still in development and QA phase.

    Looks great so far!

    I'm guessing that the input and the window took a whole lot less work than the editor.  Any chance you can rate the "stableness" of those two controls, on a scale of 1 to 10?  I'm using those two controls very heavily and I'd like to migrate asap.  Thanks!

    Oops, I take that back.  It seems that both the examples and my current project get a 'Telerik' is undefined javascript error when updating to the new dll.

    Looks like another afternoon wasted of tracking down a bug :(

    I feel rather clever for finding this one out.  It seems that telerik forgot what they already know and published the new dll for an August 30, 5:10 pm date.  Well it's only 2:00 pm EST on August 30 here and therefore, the 'Telerik' is undefined message appeared.

    Setting my pc's clock ahead a day solved the problem.  Now I just need to remember to move it back again tomorrow ;)

  • what does it mean? It means doesn't need to have a RadWindowManager on a page, or we can have more than one RadWindowManager on a page (usserControl scenario)??

    Thank you

    Hello Jason,

    You can have no RadWindowManager on page at all if you open only predefined RadWindows - in this case you will need only their declarations . If you want to share common properties for the RadWindows, of course you can still use RadWindowManager as with the standard ASP.NET edition of the control.

    And yes - you can have more than one RadWindowManager rendered on the page and they will not merge in a single one as with the standard ASP.NET edition of the control.

    Here is a small example:
    <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server">
    </asp:ScriptManager>

    <script type="text/javascript">
    function test()
    {
        var manager1 = $find("<%=RadWindowManager1.ClientID%>");
        var manager2 = $find("<%=RadWindowManager2.ClientID%>");

        alert(manager1.get_id() + "    " + manager2.get_id());
    }
    </script>

    <telerik:RadWindowManager ID="RadWindowManager1" runat="server">
    </telerik:RadWindowManager>
    <telerik:RadWindowManager ID="RadWindowManager2" runat="server">
    </telerik:RadWindowManager>
    <button onclick="test(); return false;">
        Test</button>

    Using the new version of the Prometheus build I am getting an error:

    Microsoft JScript runtime error: 'null' is null or not an object

    This occurs when using the Default/DefaultCS.aspx page.  In the generated file, ScriptResource.axd the line fails at:

    _a9.startDrag();

    Anyone encounter this or no what is causing this?

    Hello

    Can you please tell me whether you have a date for when the Scheduler will be released (ie as part of Prometheus, not as the "Futures" build), ie do you have/when will you have a live license?

    We have a product we will be releasing mid to end of October that this would be perfect for.

    Thanks, keep up the good work.

    When will next Features build be avaible to try?
    I'm curious when the menu and other navigate controls will be implemented in the Prometheus version.

    And another thing I noticed on a competitors new version, option to bind a grid/navigatetemplate etc to a webservice, I really loved that ;) Anything telerik could implement?

    Hi Per Holmqvist,

    The next "Futures" release of RadControls Prometheus will be released towards the end of November. It will feature RadGrid as well as navigational products (RadMenu, RadTreeView).

    We will also have new stuff on client-side binding through webservices -- please stay tuned for more info later this month.

    Hello Trevor,

    Which exact fix are you referring to?
    When you export from RadScheduler, you are now able to set a specific time-zone. This has been introduced in the build from 25 October (you can refer to the latest builds we post in this forum: http://www.telerik.com/community/forums/thread/b311D-baetth.aspx)

    We will have an official SP2 release sometime next week which will include all fixes from the past month.

    Does it mean that it will be possible to manipulate treeview nodes on client arbitrary — the feature many developers are craving for? At least you promised ;-)  (Client-side add/move/delete node)

    I was referring to the iCalendar Export Fix that will address the issue we're having with on Import into Outlook 2003, the Time is off. The database and RAD:Scheduler will show one time, but when Outlook pops open to accept the import it shows the wrong time.... I was told this is being fixed... I just need to know if the SP2 will address this and what I will need to do if anything to make it work. Thanks guys!

    Hello Trevor,

    The fix will be included in the Service Pack. Unfortunately it was delayed, but should be released within a day or two. Until it is out, you can get the latest unofficial build (2007.2.1025) from this forum thread.

    The fix will require minimal modification to your code. The RadScheduler.ExportToICalendar method in the previous version exported the appointments in GMT. This resulted in incorrect times when importing the appointments in Outlook. In the SP we have introduced two new overloads that accept a time-zone offset that should be applied during the export. In the general case that should be the current time zone offset. For example:

    RadScheduler1.ExportToICalendar(appointments, TimeZone.CurrentTimeZone.GetUtcOffset());

    Try to get the Export to Outlook working, still getting times that are off... Am I using this new method correctly to resolve the issue with Export to Outlook being off because of UTC?

    Protected
    Sub RadScheduler1_AppointmentCommand(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As AppointmentCommandEventArgs) Handles RadScheduler1.AppointmentCommand

    Dim currentOffset As TimeSpan
    currentOffset = TimeZone.CurrentTimeZone.GetUtcOffset(DateTime.Now)

    If e.CommandName = "Export" Then
    WriteCalendar(RadScheduler.ExportToICalendar(e.Container.Appointment, currentOffset))
    End If
    End Sub

    Hello Trevor,

    True, the time frame of the appointments is off when exported. It looks like we have missed one small detail - the currentOffset argument should be passed with a "-" sign.

    WriteCalendar(RadScheduler.ExportToICalendar(e.Container.Appointment, -currentOffset))

    Please, try this and let us know how it goes.

    What does that means? That the future build will became avaible first next week?
    The Q3 is stated to be relased mid December, giving not many days between the future preview and the Q-release......

    Or does this mean that the Q3 will be even more delayed???
