Telerik blogs

If you have been following Telerik blogs, you’ve seen quite a few posts on Telerik Silverlight Grid already. We’ve worked hard to bring to life a powerful, robust and feature-rich Silverlight grid which will be officially released with the upcoming Q1 2009.

Optimizing the different aspects of performance has always been among our first priorities. With this release, we are introducing 3 techniques to significantly reduce page loading time and to provide better user experience. The unique RadCompression module allows you to compress the entire Web Service traffic in a completely codeless manner, resulting in smaller data transfer and better performance of your application. With the asynchronous databinding of RadGridView, the application is responsive even if you are loading a large dataset. Finally, thanks to the direct data operations you no longer need to wrap your data in collection views in order to perform sorting, grouping and filtering.

Other important new features of the Silverlight grid are the Excel-like filtering and frozen columns. What is more is that end-users can now export data to Word, Excel and CSV with just a few clicks. We have also added a Masked TextBox editor with support for DateTime masks, Numeric masks, as well as a set of commonly used masks.

And if you are also interested in WPF development, we have good news for you. Telerik RadGridView for Silverlight is a mirror counterpart of RadGridView for WPF, as they share the same codebases and API. This guarantees synchronized future development if you are using both platforms.

Stay tuned for more exciting news from the Telerik Silverlight team.
