Master-Details with RadGridView for Silverlight 4, WCF RIA Services RC2 and Entity Framework 4.0

I have prepared a sample project with the Silverlight 4 version of RadGridView released yesterday. The sample project was created with Visual Studio 2010, WCF RIA Services RC 2 for Visual Studio 2010, and ADO.NET Entity Framework (.NET 4). I have decided to use the SalesOrderHeader and SalesOrderDetails tables from the Adventure Works Database, because they provide the perfect one-to-many relationship: I will not go over the steps for creating the ADO.NET Entity Data Model and the Domain Service Class. Asynchronous Master-Details with RadGridView for Silverlight and WCF RIA Services

    January 07, 2010 Share
Inspired by Brad Abrams’ marvelous series of blog posts, I have decided to create a simple project demonstrating how to harness the enormous power of RIA Services with Telerik RadGridView for Silverlight. I have decided to use the new Chinook database after reading this wonderful post by Tim Heuer explaining how to work with relational data in the RIA Services paradigm. Make sure you have this database installed on the default instance of your SQL Server 2008 Express or you will have to modify the connection string as needed. In one of my previous blog posts I have thoroughly explained How To Display Hierarchical Data with...

How To: Tooltip Row Details with RadGridView for Silverlight

    December 19, 2009 Share
In my previous blog post I explained how to display RadGridView Row Details with a RadWindow. Several days after the post was published I received a suggestion to create another sample that will be showing Row Details in a mouse-over tooltip fashion. And guess what. He decided to edit the GridViewRow ControlTemplate and removed the DetailsPresenter from the spot it usually occupies under the cells. He then placed it inside a ToolTip: 1: <ToolTipService.ToolTip> 2: <ToolTip Style="{StaticResource ToolTipStyle}" ...

How To: Display RadGridView Row Details with RadWindow for Silverlight

    December 11, 2009 Share
In one of my previous blog posts I have explained how to display hierarchical data with Row Details. Now, if you are familiar with Row Details features, you know that you are not limited to showing the details inside RadGridView. You can show them anywhere by using the handy external DetailsPresenter. As a matter of fact, each GridViewRow has one of those DetailsPresenter’s inside its template. So you will be using the same class that we are using internally to show the details of each single row. The documentation states that in order to display Row Details outside RadGridView, you need to place...
