A better way to view images in RadFileExplorer for ASP.NET AJAX – thumbnail view comes in Q1 2012

Starting with the Q1 2012 release, the RadFileExplorer gets a new display mode - thumbnails. In this mode the grid with folder and file details is replaced with a listview, which shows the current folder in a display similar to the Windows File Explorer's medium icons view. The best scenario for this new display mode is when you want to display thumbnails of image files - these will be shown instead of the default image file icon we have in the control. Other supported files (e.g. office documents) will show up with normal icons.   The size of the thumbnail icons...

Using the RadFileExplorer for ASP.NET AJAX in SharePoint 2010 web parts

This blog post will show how to integrate the RadFileExplorer control for ASP.NET AJAX to work with SharePoint 2010 libraries. If you need a version for MOSS 2007, take a look at this earlier post. By default, the control interfaces with a virtual folder in your web application and allows you to do all kinds of file/folder operations (create new folders, upload/move/delete/rename items, preview, etc.). The default behavior of the control is limited to virtual folders that can be mapped to physical locations on the server's drives. SharePoint web applications use libraries to store documents/images and these libraries are only available from the SharePoint...

How to enable keyboard support in the RadFileExplorer for ASP.NET AJAX

With the newest version already out, I am happy to present you the latest accessibility improvements of our RadFileExplorer control from the ASP.NET AJAX suite. Simply focus the FileExplorer, navigate to the grid or treeview using the [Shift+]Tab key, select the desired folder with the Arrow keys and press Delete. A popup dialog asks you to confirm the deletion. Hit Enter to delete, or Esc to cancel.       This was just an example of a common scenario, that could be carried out using the keyboard only. We have ensured that any use case...

New content providers for the RadEditor and RadFileExplorer controls

The default content provider, that ships with the editor and file explorer controls will only work with files in the current web application. Naturally, there are scenarios where you wish to show files that are not physically in the application folder. The provider model allows you to do just that - you can either customize the existing provider (FileSystemContentProvider) or write a completely new one (FileBrowserContentProvider). We recently went through the forums and noted what custom providers are most frequently used with the RadEditor and RadFileExplorer controls. After that we created sample providers for those scenarios and posted them as support...

Using the RadFileExplorer for ASP.NET AJAX in a MOSS web application

The RadFileExplorer is a fairly new control in our ASP.NET AJAX suite and we are happy to see that a lot of people are already adopting it into their solutions. In this post I will show how to make the file explorer work with SharePoint libraries. By default, the control interfaces with a virtual folder in your web application and allows you to do all kinds of file/folder operations (create new folders, upload/move/delete items, preview, etc.). Unfortunately, the default behavior of the control is limited to virtual folders that can be mapped to physical locations on the server's drives. MOSS web...
