Looking for an easy way to get started with Kendo UI? Then you may enjoy a new interactive slide deck I prepared called…you guessed it, Getting Started with Kendo UI.

This is not a normal slide deck, though.

This interactive deck was built using Google's handy "html5slides" template, which delivers a simple solution for building "slides" using nothing more than HTML/JavaScript/CSS. That means the deck features working examples of Kendo UI, so you can follow-along, read the code, and then play with the live, running Kendo UI widgets to see how things work. It's awesome.

The deck provides a basic overview of Kendo UI and it's three constituent parts: Kendo UI Web, Kendo UI DataViz, and Kendo UI Mobile (preview).

For Kendo UI Web, there is at least one slide dedicated to each UI widget, so you can see everything that Kendo UI Web has to offer and learn quickly how to use it. The slides are definitely no replacement for the vast collection of online demos, but they are perfect if you just want the quick Kendo UI 101.

And in the spirit of the deck being interactive, it's also "living"- meaning it's a constant work in progress (just like HTML, right?). As Kendo UI evolves, so will this deck. And as I get feedback about v1, I'll continue to make improvements. (I'll also try to get the "source" hosted on GitHub soon so you can easily download/fork/suggest improvements.)

Browser Support Gotcha

While Kendo UI is fully cross-browser friendly (all the way back to IE7), the slide deck is not. You'll get the best experience if you use a Webkit browser (like Chrome or Safari), a minimally functional experience if you use IE9 (some formatting errors), and a pretty complete experience with Firefox (at least in v6+).

Most of the incompatibility in IE9 is due to some CSS3 used for various deck layout and navigation features, so expect a few issues if you use IE. (IE10 should be fine, though.)

Main point: Kendo UI is 100% functional in all browsers, but if you see some slide layout oddities, check your browser.

For now, there is one thing to do: check-out the Getting Started with Kendo UI interactive presentation and let me know what you think!
