    Lessons From Steve Jobs

    October 10, 2011 Share
A lot of people have posted tributes to Steve Jobs over the past week. I’ve seen him called the CEO of the Decade (something I agree with) and also compared to Henry Ford (I sort of agree with). I’d like to call attention to four lessons we can learn from Steve Jobs’ Apple, two positive and two negative. First the good: Apple avoided falling into the trap of the Innovator’s Dilemma Apple avoided falling into the trap of the Innovator’s Dilemma. In a nutshell, the Innovator’s Dilemma says the following (I am paraphrasing): when you invent something, first you are trying to penetrate a new market and convince people to buy your...

Thanks for Visiting Telerik at Basta Germany

    September 29, 2011 Share
As every year Telerik sponsored the biggest .NET developer conference in Germany, BASTA. It was good to see that the number of attendees has grown again keeping us pretty busy on our booth. Considering that we got 18 products at the moment it is quite a challenge to staff the booth with people. Anyway we managed it with 3 guys plus extra support from Richard Campbell. A little surprise was that quite a lot of people were interested in our WinForms controls. So it’s not always the latest technology people are looking for, some like it mature ;-) This just further confirms the...

    Silverlight is dead. F****** dead

    September 22, 2011 Share
Or maybe it isn’t that dead? OK…you expected me to say that, and you’re thinking, “this guy is just trying to sell me Silverlight tools and save his business.” I will not argue…you’re almost right. There’s one small correction to be made - we are not trying to save our business. :) Rather, we are hard at work on all fronts, be it HTML5 or Win8, so it doesn’t make a difference for us what technology you’ll ultimately choose as we have all bases covered. As I’ve said many times, use whatever makes most sense for your business. That said, I...

When Should You Use Metro, Version 2

    September 21, 2011 Share
A blog by Todd Anglin, Chief Evangelist at Telerik. (Original post here) During my busy week at the Microsoft BUILD conference, I cranked-out a quick and rough decision tree designed to help you decide which Microsoft platform you should use for app development:Silverlight/WPF, HTML5, or the new Metro/WinRT. The chart proved to be very popular, so I thought I'd revisit the decision tree and with the benefit of more time to reflect, produce a new, more complete version. Thus, I present version 2 of the "How to Pick Your Platform" chart. What's Different? In the original chart, the first question I made you answer was, "Do you need to support...
