Hover Over Highlighting Is Misaligned

PROBLEM

When attempting to highlight an element in the recorder using the "Hover Over Highlighting" option, the highlighting visually appears to be misaligned with the element you are trying to highlight. Consequently the actual target element selection may also be incorrect:

SOLUTION

The problem appears because the Internet Explorer zoom level is different from the default 100%, causing the position for the highlighting to be miscalculated.


A similar problem can appear when the DPI setting of the monitor is not set to the standard 96 DPI scale.

The easiest way to adjust the IE zoom level is by clicking the drop-down arrow next to the current zoom level (bottom-right corner of the IE window) and selecting 100%.

 

If the problem does not go away, please also verify that the DPI setting of the monitor is set to the standard 96 DPI scale. Depending on the operating system you will be doing your test recording on, please take a look at one of the following:

Setting DPI in Windows XP

  1. Click on Start then Control Panel.
  2. If control panel is set at Classic View, then double-click on the Display icon:

  3. Click on Appearance and Themes, then click on Display.
  4. A box will pop up. Click on the Settings tab.

  6. Change the DPI setting to Normal size (96 DPI).
  7. Click OK and your computer will ask you to reboot your computer.  Click Yes.

  1. Go to "Appearance and Personalization" in Control Panel.

  3. In the Display menu select “Set custom text size (DPI)” from the panel on the left. A pop-up “Custom DPI Setting” appears.
  4. Make sure this is set to 100% from the drop-down menu.
  5. Click “OK” to close the pop-up and go back to Display menu again.
  6. Now click “Apply”. Windows will warn you that changes will take effect only after you log off.

  1. Click on Control Panel.

  2. Now type Adjust font size in the search box. It will take you directly to the link for the DPI Scaling Utility.

  3. Now you can choose “Default scale (96 DPI)”, or go to “Custom DPI” and set it to 96 (100%) from there.
