• Performance Optimization with Fiddler

Wednesday, December 26, 2012 by Eric Lawrence | Comments 0

Every December, Web Performance guru Stoyan Stefanov (@stoyanstefanov) corrals folks around the web performance community to collect insights and best practices on building faster websites and services. The “Web Performance Calendar” grows by one blog post per day throughout the month.

This year, I was honored to be asked to participate. My post on some of the ways in which you can use Fiddler to optimize website performance can be found here: http://calendar.perfplanet.com/2012/building-faster-sites-and-services-with-fiddler/.

    Happy Holidays!

  • Using Fiddler with Apple iOS Devices

Friday, December 21, 2012 by Eric Lawrence | Comments 2

Note: The following content is excerpted from my recently published Fiddler book.

While it’s currently a Windows-only tool, you can still use Fiddler to debug traffic from Apple’s iOS-based devices if you have a Windows-based PC to run Fiddler on, and a Wi-Fi connection shared between that PC and your iOS device. The steps aren’t hard, and this configuration gives you a powerful way to debug iPad, iPod, and iPhone traffic.

    Configure Fiddler

To configure Fiddler, click Tools > Fiddler Options > Connections and check the box labeled Allow remote computers to connect. You will need to restart ...

  • Testing Trends in 2013

Friday, December 21, 2012 by Jim Holmes | Comments 4

[Updated: Fixed grammar foul on ‘Tenants’ vs. ‘Tenets’.]

2012 is drawing to a close, and apparently all the worry about the Mayan calendar not extending past today is thankfully misplaced!

The ending of a year is a good time for some introspection, and some thinking about what’s in store for the next year. Lots of smart folks in the testing field have their own opinions about what we’ll see (or won’t!) next year, but here are a few of my thoughts. Keep in mind this list is totally in line with my own very opinionated biases!

  • Announcing the new Fiddler Logo

Thursday, December 13, 2012 by Eric Lawrence | Comments 3

Last month, I announced that Telerik designers had created a variety of new logo proposals for Fiddler, and that we were looking to the Fiddler community to select their favorite.

A month later, thousands of votes have been cast, and while the contest was close, a winner emerged-- candidate #2:

While I thought each of the proposals had merit, I’m delighted with this choice. My favorite aspect of this logo concept is that it recalls both the edge of a fiddle (violin) and the open curly-brace that’s so common in software and web development:

  • India Trip Notes

Thursday, December 13, 2012 by Jim Holmes | Comments 3

12 days. Two user groups, three conferences, two days of training/coaching for a customer, five customer site visits, one interview, several community engagements.

I’m pretty sure I’m missing something there, but that’s a fairly accurate summary of my trip to India these last two weeks. Our country manager, Abhishek Kant, lined up an extremely full itinerary (because I told him to!) for my extended trip. We spent a lot of time having great conversations with customers, other organizations, community members, and each other.

India’s an amazing place, and I’ll have a post about the more personal aspects of my ...

  • Test Studio Workshop Needs You

Wednesday, December 05, 2012 by Stoil Stoichev | Comments 2

    Hi everyone!

So the initial cycle of four workshops just ended! A big "THANK YOU" to all who attended. In the span of four weeks we covered four topics:

    • How to Record a Login Test
    • How to automate HTML popups
    • How to automate HTML frames
    • How to extend Test Studio (i.e. Test Studio plugins)

Did you miss any of those "How to"s ?

Not to worry - we have them up on Telerik TV so you can check them out right here. These videos were recorded live during the actual workshops sessions.

Personally, I'm happy with the way the ...

  • New Release! Test Studio 2012 R2 SP1

Tuesday, December 04, 2012 by Jim Holmes | Comments 1

Our engineering and testing crew has been hard at work to get the latest release of Test Studio out the door! Test Studio 2012 R2 SP1 is now ready for you to download and install!

Our service packs generally focus on bugfixes and under-the-cover enhancements; however, this release has some really exciting new features. Two of my personal favorites are searching within a project or test, and Silverlight/WPF scrolling of elements via the UI.

First off, search. Ease of navigation through a large test suite or test is a very tedious task. There’s also a discoverability issue if ...
