I'm currently trying to view bugs on the task board. In the task board settings I have the query set to "All Work items" and bugs and tasks are checked. The tasks show up, however the two bugs we have entered do not. Is there something I'm missing?

It's been resolved, if bugs have different states as the tasks (we are using a custom workflow template) they will now show up.

    Hi Karel,

It's possible that you've found a bug but I'll need a bit more information to be sure.  Can you answer the following questions:

    1. Which 'Group By' option do you have selected?
    2. Which query are you using (see Task Board Settings)?
    3. When you create work items in the task board, which method do you use (i.e. right-click menu, ribbon menu, etc.)?
    4. Do you have any filters being applied such as the Area/Iteration filter or the search filter located above the task board?

    Thanks,
    Joel

    Hi,

    - There is no group by selected ( is empty )
    - the query is : [System.TeamProject] = @project and [System.State] <> '' and [System.WorkItemType] <> 'Sprint' and [System.State] <> 'Deleted' and [System.IterationPath] under 'WinRoute\WinRoute 7.3'
    - to create new work item i use the : ribbon menu
    - yes, but the work items are part of this iterationpath ( i verified )

note this : today i can see those that i could not see yesterday. and today I can't see the task from today : so this seems to be a "date" problem. Note that the TFS Server resides in canada and I'm in europe => quite a diference in hours => perhaps this could be a reason.

    Thanks, Karel.

    Hi Karel,

If you use the ribbon button to create a work item, it will not immediately show up in the task board.  You would have to refresh the task board for it to appear (using the Refresh button in the ribbon).  However, if you right click inside the task board and create a new work item using the context menu, the new item will be added immediately without requiring you to refresh.

Unless you're using a date column in your query (which you don't seem to be) the task board does not use dates in any way so I'm pretty sure that the issue is not time zone related.

Also remember to be careful about the states/columns you choose for the task board because in some TFS process templates Bugs and Product Backlog Items have the same states, whereas in others they have different states.  If the states are different you may have to go into the task board settings and add all the Bug states that you want to see (see attached screenshot).

It seems that you are using some sort of scrum template, either one from Microsoft or perhaps one of the EMC templates.  In the Microsoft Scrum template, Bugs and PBIs have the same states.  In the EMC Scrum 2008 (v2) template they have almost the same states, except Bugs include a Ready for Test state.  In the EMC 2010 (v3) template the states are completely different (except the deleted state).

    Hi Again,

I understand all you are saying. yet there is something wrong : there are situations where I have workitems showing up in the query used for the teskboard, that er in a state that should be show and that er not show. Not even after restarting the work item manager.
A few moments after that ( a day or less ) they show up without having had any change.

    so yeah.... strange...

next time i notice i'll capture screens or try to make a recording....

    Hello Karel,

Screen shots or even better, a video, would be very helpful because I'm not sure why the work items would not show up one day, and then start showing up the next day.  Perhaps if we could see the problem in action we could see something else that might be the cause.
